Present Indefinite Tense or Simple Present Tense
Present Indefinite Tense” indicates action that happens on a regular basis in the present. These actions happen again and again in our daily life.



 

We often use these words in Present Indefinite Tense: Often, always, sometimes, generally, usually, occasionally, rarely, never, hardly, habitually, daily, Etc.

Type 1.

Present Indefinite Affirmative or Positive Sentence

Structure -  Subject + Verb(s/es) + Object.

Rules related to use of “Verb” in a sentence.

If “SUBJECT” belongs to First person (singular & plural number category),Second  person (singular & plural number category) or third person (Plural number category).
As in I, we, you, they, etc., we use the verb’s first form (V1) in a sentence.

Examples:
  • I read a novel.
  • They work in a government office.
  • We enjoy Hollywood movies.
  • You help us always.
* If “SUBJECT” belongs to Third person (Singular number)
As in he, she, it, etc., then we use s/es with the verb’s first form (v1) in a sentence.

Examples-
  • She reads the country’s history.
  • He sings a beautiful song.
  • John eats pizza.
  • My brother reads a novel.
  • She sings a beautiful song.
  • She reads the country’s history.
Type 2.

Present Indefinite Negative Sentences

Structure—Subject + Do/Does + Not + Verb1 + Object
If  “SUBJECT”  belongs  to First  person (singular & plural number category) or  Second person   (singular & plural number category) or Third person  (Plural number category)  as  I ,we ,you ,they etc…then
To form negative sentence we use “Do Not”  and verb’s first form(v1) in a sentence.
If “SUBJECT” belongs to the third person (singular number category), as in He, she, it, etc., then, 
To form a negative sentence, we use “does not” and the verb’s first form (V1) in a sentence.
Examples—
  • He does not like me.
  • You do not wait for me
  • She does not go to the office on her birthday.
  • They do not help me.

Type 3.


Present Indefinite Interrogative Sentences
Structure—Do/Does + Subject + Verb1 + Object?
=> If “SUBJECT” belongs to First person (singular & plural number category) or Second person (singular & plural number category) or Third person (Plural number category) as - I, we, you, they etc. then,
=> To form Interrogative sentence we use “Do “and verb’s first form (v1) in a sentence.
If “SUBJECT" belongs to Third person(Singular number category) as He, she ,it, name..Etc then
=> To form Interrogative sentence we use “Does” and verb’s first form (v1) in a sentence.
Examples-
  • Do you write a letter to your friend? 
  • Does the shopkeeper adulterate? {Adulterate}
  • Do they help you?
  • Does she go to the office on her birthday?
  • Does your father chide you? {chide}

Type 4.

Present Indefinite Interrogative-Negative Sentences

Structure -  Do/ Does + Subject + Not + Verb1 + Object+?
Important- In This structure  use “not” after the subject in a sentence.
Or, 

And if you want to use this structure of sentence making, then use don't/doesn't before the subject. 

Don’t/Doesn’t + subject+verb1+object+?
Examples-
  • Do you not watch movies in theaters? / Don't you watch movies in theaters?
  • Does he not disturb you? / Doesn't he disturb you?
  • Don’t you look for better opportunities?
  • Does your friend take money from you?

Type 5.

Present Indefinite Interrogative Sentence With WH Family Words:

(What, when, why, where, how, which, who, whose, whom...etc.)

Structure – WH family words + Do/Does + Subject + Not + Verb 1 + Object?

Examples-
  • What do you do? {do}
  • Where do you work in this city?
  • When do you sleep?
  • Why does he scream? {scream}

More Examples of Present Indefinite Tense  

  • Labors do strike {strike}
  • The player amazes audiences. (Amaze)
  • Teachers do not allow students to play. {Allow}
  • Why does Congress analyze after a loss in an election? (Analyze)
  • When does the exam board announce the result? {Announce}
  • All friends admire you. {Admire} 
  • Do you admit your mistakes? {Admit}
  • The judge adjourns the proceedings of the court. {Adjourn}
  • The policeman does not acquit the captive. {Acquit}
